Get the USB BDM thingie. If you still fail to get it working i will take the interface off your hands. No cure, no pay ;)

That sounds good D,

If I include my extra box will you flash my stg3+ to it too?

Thanks,

Evening peeps, after buying all the bits and bobs to get into this I promptly left my '94 Aero at my dads place while I borrowed his skyline GTR. Approx 9 months later and I still have his car but I went and rescued the saab. No time like the present so hooked everything up onto my spare ECU (T5)

I have spent a couple of hours reading through links relating to the issue I have and have checked pretty much everything I think. I'm running the BDM (deltawave) through a parallel port LPT1 into an old laptop running 2000. I read in the guide that 2000 might require setting up with 'userport' so have opened the port up with this. I've also checked the orientation of the leads (missing pins) etc etc. All I get on running is a recurring 'fault on port lpt1' and 'can't clock mcu in reset'. It does this whether the parallel lead is connected or not so suggests the computer isn't seeing anything useful from the module.

Is there anyway of checking the voltages into/out of the BDM? The continuity of the soldered pins is ok as checking resistance from back of board to input of BDM and all showing as connected. I can also get various voltages reading across the 8 pins on the PCM. Is there any way of checking the output of the BDM to see where the problem is? i.e I have no idea if the BDM is working as it should? Ok, it's more likely something I have missed but power connections etc test ok

Any help appreciated

regards
Ben

Hi Ben,

Please try running BD32 with a DOS boot disk first. Once you have things working in DOS then you can try other things, but bear in mind that BD32 can be difficult to get working and may only work in DOS on your laptop.

Hi Nige,

I'll help if I can. From memory 'md 0x0 128' doesn't work properly after doing 'do prept5.do'. This is because the prept5.do file changes some settings in the 68332 chip. ('md 0x40000 128' might work after prept5.do). It seems you always have to type 'reset' before 'md 0x0 128'.

The sequence I use is this:

Code: Select all
reset                       (seems to be needed for 'md 0x0 128' to work properly
md 0x0 128                  (this is optional but useful for checking the BDM connection is OK)
do prept5.do                (needed otherwise dumping and FLASHing won't work)
dumpt5 original.bin         (only if you want to dump your BIN file)
flasht5 modified.bin        (only if you want to FLASH a bin file)

NOTE Since you have a T5.2 ECU you will need to use 'dumpt52' and 'flasht52' versions of the scripts.

If you want to post (or pm) your corrupt dumped BIN file I could take a look at it to maybe guess what went wrong.

Good luck,
Sophie x

Anyone a clue why USB-BDM not working 100% under Windows 7? It's a 32-bit OS; software runs just fine, but i figure it must be someting with the virtual COM-port...

I was having trouble programming with PE Micro debugger in XP. I could read, verify and erase just fine, but programming always hanged in the beginning. It started to work when I unchecked Device Manager -> USB Root Hub -> Power Management -> "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Did you install the drivers with the internet connection disabled ??
Check the device manager to see if the lawicel pops up when you connect it (the name that pops up must be lawicel ..... too).

I'm running t5suite2 and the canusb on a windows 7 x86 (32bit) system , it runs fine here.

It's not CANUSB, but USB-BDM. Tried both drivers (from program and Windows), no result. Starts to read, but crashes or freeze.

Have been flashing with USB-BDM for almost a year with Windows 7 32bit without problems. What are your computer specs? In these cases the best course of action is to recheck ECU power supply and BDM pins, unless your OS runs a lot of programs in background in which case the best idea is to stop most of the background tasks..

Used a XP-box before; it all worked just fine.
Now have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine...
And no, it's not the power supply; i'm flashing in-car for 6 months now ;)

But problem solved; JohnC gave me the golden hint...
Version 1.72 is the latest, and that version works. I had the 1.71. installed....

Hmm.... Still no go. Removed all drivers, reinstalled BDMtool1.72, no go....
So 1 thing left; re-install the netbook with XP.....
Working on that now.

I'll look into it. After all, XP is gradually disappearing and we need to keep in pace with progress

Could it be that Windows 7 manages USB power output in a different manner? Does you laptop have any power related Win7 drivers at all? Mine is stone-age (2003) and hence does not have any power issues..
